This morning we started off by washing our clothes. Since we only brought 5 t-shirts each, it was about time to get a wash in and our clothes truly appreciate that. There was a local Sunday farmers market right in front of our house and the weather was incredible. We headed to the school around 8:30am and started sanding the walls for the kids' bathroom, taped the edges of the walls and started painting. Some of the kids came to help us and we spent the whole day and afternoon working together. After work we were asked if we wanted to “GO ON A TRIP,” without really knowing what that meant we drove east for about 35 minutes and arrived at a fishing village. When we got there, there was a long-tail boat waiting for us and we headed to one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been in my life. We went into Phang Nga Bay where we were surrounded by beautiful islands and had the chance to stop at one of them and appreciate how incredible this country is. After having lots of fun with everyone in the ride and in the islands we headed back.
I got a ride with the director to pick up Aidan and Zoe, our two new members who had just arrived from Singapore and London to be part of the project. We took them home to leave their stuff and went to dinner at Fatima’s, where local teachers were waiting for us to play cards. We had a very fun night, laughed a lot and helped Fatima cook dinner. One surprising thing that happened tonight was that for the first time Fatima allowed me and CJ to clean the dishes after dinner. For the past couple days, whenever we asked her if we could help, she would always tell us no, but yesterday it was different. We were able to wash the dishes for her and although it might not seem like a big deal, we felt very good about it. After dinner, we stayed talking and watching The Voice (Thai version) with Fatima and some of the locals until it was time to go to bed.
We have a very full day tomorrow and are very excited to introduce Aidan and Zoe to the kids.
Love,
Juan and CJ
