This morning we had our coffee at our neighbor’s house. Her name is Fatima and she has become our Thai mother. She makes us breakfast while we watch the news together. This morning there was a recap on the destruction from tropical storm Pabuk. It was the worst storm to hit southern Thailand in 60 years. Luckily our area wasn’t affected as badly as others.
Today is Saturday so when we arrived there were no students at the school. After painting for a few hours, two of the student’s parents, San and Bao, picked us up to drive 30 minutes into town to buy more paint and we stopped to get a second round of breakfast.
After we got back, we started sanding the walls with some of the kids and the volunteers. We found a very nice speaker in the Director's office, which made the afternoon a lot more fun with Jack Johnson playing in the background. Additionally, we tried a traditional ice cream from Thailand, which was very helpful to beat the 89 degree weather. After we were done painting it started raining, and we played Sepak Takraw, a traditional Thai sport, with the kids and the parents in the rain.
Around 4pm we were invited to go play volleyball with locals and WHAT AN INCREDIBLE EXPERIENCE !!!! We drove 15 minutes into the village and got to a place with a soccer field, volleyball and badminton court. We played volleyball for 3 hours with the locals, who are incredibly good at it and finished the night having dinner at a local's home. One of the surprising things we found is that at the locals house there were two huge lizards, which helped to eat the bugs. It was quite interesting to eat dinner while watching the lizards chasing bugs around, but I guess it's part of the experience.
We are feeling very blessed to be here and can't wait for our next adventure.
Love,
Juan and CJ
